Dukto – LAN file transfer made easy

While there may be several apps  and softwares deisgned for local file transfer there are none as easy and simple to use as Dukto. While I used it often on Windows Phone 8.1 the app has now made the move to a proper UWP app. So it is now available via the Windows store for the PC too. A Win 32 version for Windows contnues to be available for users on older versions of Windows.

The main features of the app as mentioned on the website

  • Simple user interface
  • No server or internet connection needed
  • Zero configuration
  • Clients auto-discovery
  • High speed file transfer
  • Multi-OS native support
  • Portable version available
  • Multi files and folders transfer
  • Transfers log
  • Send and receive text snippets (eg. useful for sending URLs)
  • Open received files directly from the application
  • Windows 7 taskbar integration with progress and transfer indicator
  • Show your IP addresses on the IP connection page
  • Full Unicode support
  • Metro style UI
  • Free and open source

Due to a bad experience from some users being hostile towards him despite being a free app the developer has hidden the app from the store. It can only be downloaded via the link below

Instagram for Windows 10 moves beyond the mobile

When Instagram was initially made available for Windows 10 Mobile there was much hope that it would take advantage of the UWP to come to the big screen. It seems that that day is finally here. Instagram have announced via their blog the availability of the app for Windows 10 tablets. What this means is that tablet users get full functionality of the mobile app as well as the abilit to post photos. On a regular desktop PC however you get everything besides the ability to post photos. The camera icon at the bottom fails to appear at all. Other than that it’s fully featured but seems very sluggish and just a little bit buggy. Read more about the release at the official Instagram blog
